Teradata’s Customer Journey in smart cities: still beta

September 13, 2018 by Ted Cuzzillo

Is Teradata’s Customer Journey headed for any smart city near you? Yes, but not soon, if senior marketing VP Chris Twogood’s reply to my question is any guide.

Teradata’s Customer Journey has potentially enormous reach across all kinds of applications. It ingests all kinds of data, dives deep for meaning, and then springs tailored, real-time messaging on whoever needs it. It’s been put to use so far in retail, finance, life science, and medicine.

It’s a force that Teradata itself is still learning to apply — which helps explain Chris’s encouraging but vague answer to my question during his presentation last Friday on Boulder BI Brain Trust.

I asked simply for his thoughts on how Customer Journey might work in smart cities.

I absolutely see the correlation of how it could be used in smart cities. So far what we see in smart cities is about collecting data and making data available. They haven’t yet got to optimizing it and analyzing it and thinking about how things come together. There are a few areas across the world where we’re working [on this in some joint projects] to see how this could come to life. But right now it’s all in early beta. But you’re right on. This kind of capability has large applications in smart cities and sensor data and how sensors affect one another and how different devices have implications for other devices downstream. It’s a great question.
